Coversyl (Perindopril)

Coversyl (Perindopril Arginine) Medication Information:
What is Coversyl?
Coversyl Arginine is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
These widen the blood arteries, making it easier for the heart to pump blood through them.
Coversyl Uses:
Coversyl arginine is used in the following ways:
- To treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
- To treat heart failure (a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs),
- To reduce the risk of cardiac events, such as heart attack,
- In patients with stable coronary artery disease (a condition in which the heart's blood supply is reduced or blocked) and who have already had a heart attack and/or an operation to improve the heart's blood supply by widening the vessels that supply it.
Directions and Dosage:
Always follow the doctor's or pharmacist's instructions when taking this medication.
Swallow the tablet with a glass of water at the same time each day, preferably first thing in the morning, before a meal. The doctor will determine the most appropriate dose for you.
The following are the suggested dosages:
The standard starting and maintenance dose for high blood pressure is 5mg once daily. If necessary, this can be increased to 10mg once a day after one month. The maximum suggested dose for high blood pressure is 10mg per day.
The usual beginning dose for people aged 65 and up is 2.5mg once a day. This can be increased to 5mg once a day after a month, and eventually to 10mg once a day if necessary.
The usual beginning dose for heart failure is 2.5mg once daily. This can be increased to 5mg once a day after two weeks, which is the maximal dose for heart failure.
The usual beginning dose for stable coronary artery disease is 5mg once daily. This can be increased to 10mg once daily after two weeks, which is the maximum suggested dose for this indication.
It is not suggested for use in children or adolescents.
Coversyl Side Effects:
As your body adjusts to the drug, you may experience dizziness, light-headedness, or fatigue. It's also possible to get a dry cough. Tell the doctor or pharmacist right away if any of these side effects persist or worsen.
When rising gently from a sitting or lying posture, one can limit the danger of dizziness and light-headedness.
This medication has a small chance of causing serious (and perhaps fatal) liver damage. If a person has any symptoms of liver damage, such as nausea/vomiting that won't stop, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal discomfort, yellowing eyes/skin, or dark urine, seek medical attention immediately.
This medicine seldom causes a severe allergic reaction. However, if one detects any symptoms of a major allergic response, such as a rash, itching/swelling (particularly of the face/tongue/throat), extreme dizziness, or problems breathing, seek medical treatment right away.
Coversyl Precautions:
If a person is allergic to perindopril or other ACE inhibitors (such as captopril or lisinopril), or if he/she has any other allergies, notify the doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Inactive chemicals may be included in this product, causing allergic reactions or other issues. For further information, speak with the pharmacist.
Before using this drug, tell the doctor or pharmacist about any allergies, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), blood filtering operations (such as LDL apheresis, dialysis), and high potassium levels in the blood, or liver illness.
Storage:
Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture, in the original container. Keep out of the bathroom. All drugs should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
Unless otherwise directed, do not flush or pour drugs down the toilet or into a drain. When this product has expired or is no longer needed, properly dispose of it.
Coversyl Drug Interactions:
Aliskiren, gold injections, lithium, sacubitril, certain drugs that weaken the immune system/increase the risk of infection (such as everolimus, sirolimus), drugs that may increase the level of potassium in the blood (such as ARBs including losartan/valsartan, birth control pills containing drospirenone) are some of the products that may interact with this drug.
Some items contain substances that can elevate blood pressure or exacerbate heart failure. Tell your pharmacist about the products you're using and how to use them safely (particularly cough and cold remedies, diet supplements, or NSAIDs like ibuprofen/naproxen).
